Becoming a Care Leaver

To all Children’s Social Care Leaving Care Teams (if this relates to you)

Please stop moving Care Leavers into unfurnished, unclean, mouldy spaces that you intend for us to call our ‘own new home’.

Please stop limiting Care Leavers by telling us where and how to spend our Leaving Care Grant (Setting Up Home Allowance).

Please be mindful of the impact this is having on our Mental Health Emotional Well being and our view of you, the Care System

Please view the place before you move us into the space. If you can see that it’s not suitable, then please don’t expect us to move in.

Here are a few things we’d like Leaving Care Teams and Leaving Care Advisors to consider:

  1. Once the right place is found, take us to see it before you expect us to move in.

  2. Listen and take on our thoughts, feelings and wishes about the space.

  3. Walk us through the Leaving Care Grant in a way that teaches us how to budget.

  4. Reimburse us if we have used our own money to purchase the essential household items we need.

  5. Walk us through each and every bill we’ll have to pay.

  6. When the time is right for us to move, see to it that the space is warm and welcoming.

  7. On moving in day, please help us. Provide us with transport to get there and suitcases for our belongings.

We hope these help you as you continue to improve our Care, Outcomes and Life Chances.

Welcome to The Transformed You

Established in 2013, The Transformed You is a Care Experienced led organisation, specialising in providing Intervention and Support Mentoring Programmes and Services, to transform the lives and raise the aspirations of Children and Young People in Care and Care Leavers, because we believe that Change Is Possible.

Our Why?

Children and Young People enter the Care System filled with trauma, rejection and fear. Our adverse childhood experiences impact on how we grow and develop, which can present as behaviour and emotional difficulties that impact on our school performance, our home life, our social interactions and how we see ourselves and how we see our future.

Through Our Service we:

  • Teach our Mentees how to identify and channel their emotions

  • Teach them how to respond to and work through difficult and challenging times

  • Support them to learn how to develop healthy social skills

  • Empower them to have a positive sense of who they are

  • Affirm their ability to achieve their aspirations

  • Help them create a pathway on how to make their dreams their reality

  • Support them to express their views, feelings and wishes to Professionals to make sure their needs are met

  • Equip them with Life Skills for life after Care

More Information about what we do can be found throughout our Website!

We’re an Independent Organisation (not Government Funded) and so if our Cause resonates with you and you’d like to help us continue making a difference in the lives of Children and Young People in Care and Care Leavers, why not consider Shopping With Us or becoming a Pay It Forward Champion.

Thank You in Advance, With Your Help, Change Is Possible!
